THERE CAN BE NO SUBSTITUTE FOR HAVING MORE POLICE ON OUR STREETS TO MAKE OUR STREETS SAFER

23rd December 2004

The recent stabbing of a businessman in London has highlighted the awful use of knives in crimes.

There can be no real justification for carrying a knife around. The law needs to tackle this and also the reasons why people can buy dangerous knives in the first place.

Buying knives on the internet is also a problem. The Liberal Democrats have spoken to companies such as Ebay about ensuring dangerous knives are not available for sale.

There can be no substitute for having more police on our streets to make our streets safer, and we will employ an extra 10,000 and cut their paperwork so they can be out preventing crime, not stuck in the HQ filling in forms.
